LONDON (July 16, 2026) — The Brave Movement issued today a call for applications to join the Safe Tech Lived Experience Council, a newly formed 10-member global advisory body made up of individuals with lived experience of online abuse which will work with technology companies, governments, regulators, and the broader online safety sector to ensure children’s safety online. The council will be the first global advisory body of its kind, created with funding support from Safe Online.
“Tech-facilitated sexual violence against children and adolescents is on the rise globally. As technology companies, governments and regulators work to respond, one crucial voice is missing – the people who have been harmed,” said Emily Laurie, Senior Director, Programs and Advocacy.
Applications must be received no later than August 23, 2026. Written, audio, or video applications are accepted. Advocates over 18 years of age with lived experience of all forms of childhood online violence, including survivors, parents, and youth, from any region are welcome to apply.
“The council is built on a foundational principle: individuals with lived experience including survivors, parents, and youth, are not only individuals who have experienced harm. They are experts whose lived experience can – and must – directly shape safer digital environments for children and young people around the world.” said Laurie.
The Safe Tech Lived Experience Council will identify gaps in existing safety measures and advocate for stronger, enforceable protections for children across the digital ecosystem. Integrating lived experience into safety by design will enable safety to be built into new products, games and apps.
Notes to editors:
Currently, two out of three countries don’t require Internet Service Providers to report suspected child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and nearly two-thirds aren’t connected to INTERPOL’s International Child Sexual Exploitation database, according to the Out of the Shadows Index.
