Hold leaders accountable for ending violence against children

A record number of children are experiencing violence across the globe: One in two children are victims of violence, and three girls and two boys experience some form of sexual violence every second.

To end this global scourge, national governments must follow through on the pledges they made to end violence against children (VAC) at last year’s Global Ministerial Conference on Ending VAC.

Write to your leader before the G20 Leaders’ Summit November 22, 2025.

With the G20 Leaders’ Summit fast approaching, now is a pivotal moment to demand urgent action. By writing letters to your representatives, you can help hold leaders to account and shine a light on the gaps in protection, justice, and healing for children. Together, we can build powerful pressure to ensure children’s safety is at the top of the G20 agenda.

What you can do

Use one of these letter templates to call on your representatives to fulfill their pledges to end VAC.

These can be personalized by:

  • Adding your name, organization, and country or region.
  • Adapting pledge and progress examples to reflect your national context.
  • Highlighting the most critical actions you want your leader to commit to.
  • Keeping your tone respectful but urgent.
Send a direct, personalized letter to your country’s G20 representative (e.g., Prime Minister, President, or Finance Minister), or to your AU, EU, or national political leader.

Remember: this is a global action, and every message adds pressure for change.

SUBJECT: Urgent action needed: Protect children at the G20 Summit

Dear [Leader’s Name],

On behalf of the Brave Movement and [your organization/community], I am calling on you to take bold action at the upcoming G20 Summit to end violence against children in our community.

Children in [your country/community] continue to face [insert local challenges: online exploitation, lack of survivor support, limited funding for child protection, etc.]. Survivors and communities are calling for change, but progress has been too slow.

We urge you to prioritize the following four actions during the G20 Summit:

  • Invest in child protection by committing to increased and sustained funding to prevent and respond to sexual violence.
  • Close the online safety gap by mandating stronger protections for children online and hold tech companies accountable.
  • Listen to survivors of childhood violence, ensuring they have a seat at the table in decision-making processes.
  • Report transparently on the commitments you made to end violence against children – and track progress. [Insert your country’s pledges for context].

The upcoming G20 Summit is a pivotal moment. As a global leader, your voice and actions can help protect millions of children. We urge you to make child protection a top priority at the G20 Summit in South Africa.

Sincerely,

  • Highlight how childhood sexual abuse and other harmful practices are affecting children in your community.
  • Cite local survivor-led initiatives you know of, such as the Brave Movement
  • Point out gaps in national funding, services, or policies—and emphasize how survivor voices can help shape effective solutions.
