Together for Girls is a global partnership working to end violence against children and adolescents, particularly sexual violence against girls. The partnership pays special attention to the gendered dimensions of violence, and its impact on health, education, and human rights. It envisions a world where every young person is safe, protected, and empowered. Founded in 2009, the Together for Girls partnership includes more than 20 national governments across sub-Saharan Africa, Central and South America, Southeast Asia, and Europe, as well as civil society organizations, UN entities, development partners, and the private sector.
Together for Girls is proud to have helped catalyze the Brave Movement, and to serve as the host organization.

Daniela Ligiero

Dr. Ligiero has 25 years of experience working on gender equity, including as Vice President of Girls and Women’s Strategy at the UN Foundation and as Senior Gender Advisor at the U.S. Department of State, where she led the integration of gender issues into all foreign policy and investments in global health. She is a survivor of sexual violence herself and has been speaking publicly about her story for the last decade.
“There is so much silence and shame around abuse and violence. I started sharing my own story over a decade ago – not because I like doing it, but because I was done carrying the shame. There are so many survivors out there and I was driven to be the voice breaking the silence so that others feel less alone and know that there is hope and the ability to heal.
For many years I have pursued this dream of building a movement to address the global enormity of sexual violence against children and adolescents. The culmination of commitment and determination of many has brought to fruition this dream: Brave. With a solid foundation of incredible survivors and allies with diverse skills, knowledge, and expertise we have sown the seeds. And these are now growing into an evolving, vibrant, and powerful global movement to end sexual violence against children and adolescents. We believe there is power in mobilizing at a global level while ensuring national and local levels are connected and mobilized to put pressure on governments, leaders, and decision-makers to take action.
